Ear Wax Removal Aftercare
Following ear wax removal by microsuction or warm water irrigation there is generally very little aftercare needed however, please read on for some general advice. If you have any concerns following your ear wax removal please do not hesitate to get in touch so we can help to advise you.

SORE EARS FOLLOWING WAX REMOVAL

This is extremely rare, however, if you have had a large amount of wax removed, then this soreness may just be due to the canals remaining very sensitive. This discomfort should only last a day or so, and can be resolved using over the counter pain killers. If the pain continues, or is moderate to severe we suggest a GP appointment to rule out an infection.
HAVING A ‘BLOCKED EAR’ FEELING

When ears are blocked with wax for some weeks or months, pressure can build up behind the blockage causing a feeling of having cotton wool in the ear or a sensation of having blocked up ears. It is not unusual for the sensation of having a blocked ear to remain for a few days following ear wax removal, especially if warm water irrigation was used. However, if the feeling persists after a few days, please contact us for advice.

FOLLOWING IRRIGATION WHAT AFTERCARE DO I NEED?

Following gentle warm water irrigation to clear your ear wax it is important to keep your ear canals dry to reduce the risk of infection from water-borne bacteria. The irrigation process can slightly dry the canals and strip the area of some on the natural oils secreted from inside the ear. The natural oils should return to normal levels after a few days with no other aftercare needed.

FOLLOWING MICROSUCTION WHAT AFTERCARE DO I NEED?

After microsuction there is no need to keep ears dry as the natural oil levels have not been affected, therefore no other precautions or aftercare is needed.
